Jeremiah Smith Unveiled as 1st Ever Collegiate Athlete on a Limited-Edition Red Bull Energy Drink
A limited-edition Jeremiah Smith Red Bull Energy Drink was unveiled in Ohio, marking the first time a collegiate athlete has appeared on the can in the brand's history. The limited-edition Red Bull honors the Ohio State University sophomore wide receiver and is available in 8.4 fl oz and 12 fl oz sizes. It will be sold exclusively in Ohio through December or while supplies last.
The reveal to Jeremiah happened on Monday in Columbus with help from fellow Miami native and NFL legend Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson. Johnson surprised Jeremiah with an oversized, football-style Matryoshka doll that, when opened, revealed Jeremiah’s very own Red Bull can.
“It’s truly a blessing for me to be the first collegiate athlete to grace a can of Red Bull,” Jeremiah said after the reveal. “I can’t thank them enough for all the thought that went into the can.”
The can pays homage to multiple moments of Jeremiah’s young career:
- Bold red “4” in 8.4 oz represents Jeremiah’s jersey number.
- One-handed catch is a nod to his highlight-reel athleticism.
- The route line featured on the can draws inspiration from his iconic 56-yard reception against Notre Dame that helped secure Ohio State’s ninth National Championship.
- Jeremiah’s portrait is from his announcement as Red Bull’s first college football athlete in September 2024.
“I don’t think he realizes just yet how special this is,” Johnson said following the surprise. “Understanding where you come from, to where you are now, all the work you’ve put in, it’s all paying off. To grace the can of Red Bull, a global company, it’s a testament to all the work he has put in up to this point. Hell, I’m happy and I’m not even on the can.”
Jeremiah joins an elite roster of athletes from around the world who have been featured on Red Bull Energy Drink, including skiing icon Lindsey Vonn, soccer star Neymar Jr., freestyle motocross legend Travis Pastrana, former NBA All-Star Blake Griffin and World Series Champion Kris Bryant.
Jeremiah is currently in his sophomore season at Ohio State. In seven games this year, he has caught 49 receptions for 602 receiving yards, seven receiving touchdowns and one rushing touchdown for the No. 1 team in the country.
Red Bull Energy Drink is available in 175 countries worldwide, with over 11.5 billion cans consumed last year, including 4 billion in the U.S. alone. An 8.4 fl oz can of Red Bull Energy Drink contains 80 mg of caffeine, comparable to the caffeine content found in a home- brewed cup of coffee.
